YouTube was acquired by Google several years ago and they have made attempts to come up with a solution for safely using YouTube with children in education. Google has recently released a new solution that leverages Google Apps for Education with YouTube. Implementation is complex and not easily undone so I want to communicate how it will work prior to implementation.
Once enabled, all access to YouTube will require the user to be logged on to their Harper Creek Google Apps for Education account.
Teachers and other staff will have unrestricted access to YouTube and students will have access to YouTube/EDU as well as any approved videos and channels. High school students also will have unrestricted access to all YouTube videos. All middle school and elementary teachers are authorized to approve YouTube videos and channels.
To approve a YouTube video go to the video and click on the Approve button on the blue bar beneath the video. Approved videos will show the message "Watchable by apps.harpercreek.net." To approve a channel, navigate to the channel and click on the Approve button in the blue bar towards the top of the screen.
Please remember, all Harper Creek students
are able to view all approved videos and channels.
If a video needs to be removed from the approved video list submit a help desk ticket and include the URL to the video.
