Statement from Harper Creek Community Schools

Harper Creek Community Schools prides itself on being an outstanding educational institution which consistently operates with purpose, respect, and integrity. We are aware of the allegations that controversial subject matter resulted in a substitute teacher, employed through a third party agency, not being invited back for further service.  This is not the case. We do not shy away from controversial issues. The District did have concerns that the substitute teacher did not follow district art curriculum. These concerns, in addition to other failures, were the basis for the determination. We work very diligently to ensure that all students, staff and contracted personnel are treated fairly with respect and privacy.

FOIA Procedures

As a public body under the Freedom of Information Act, the District has developed the following procedures and guidelines to implement and assure compliance with FOIA. The District has also created a written public summary of the specific procedures and guidelines explaining how to submit written requests to the District and how to understand the District’s written responses, deposit requirements, fee calculations, and avenues for challenge and appeal. The procedures, guidelines and written public summary shall be posted on the District’s website.

Seeking Substitute Bus Drivers

Harper Creek is accepting applications for School Bus Drivers.

$10.50/hour during training period
$12.77/hour during 90 work day probationary period
After 90 days, wages start at $15.31 per hour

High school diploma/GED required
Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license, positive driving record, and the ability to manage students’ behavior during transport.

VIT Program

Harper Creek Community Schools, in partnership with PESG, is pleased to introduce the Very Important Teacher Program (VIT Program) for substitute teachers.  The basics for the VIT Program are that sub teachers can receive a bonus based on the amount of days they work at Harper Creek during each month of school.  We are hopeful that this extra incentive for substitute teachers will encourage them to choose Harper Creek.

The bonuses are as follows:

A $100 bonus will be given for working the equivalent of 10 full or half days in a given month

A $225 bonus will be given for working the equivalent of 15 full or half days in a given month

A $400 bonus will be given for working the equivalent of 20 full or half days in a given month

This bonus program is effective September 1, 2015 and will continue each month throughout the 2015-2016 school year.  All bonuses will be calculated after the month’s end and will be paid out the following month to all qualifying individuals. 

Long term subs will qualify for this bonus during their first 20 days only. 

No registration is necessary; subs just need to work!
