Harper Creek Community Schools received the Silver Whole Child Award from the Michigan Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD). The program identifies schools that have created school cultures with programs that exemplify the ten components of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model. These components are Health Education, Physical Education and Physical Activity, Nutrition Environment and Services, Health Services, Counseling Psychological and Social Services, Social and Emotional Climate, Physical Environment, Employee Wellness, Family Engagement, and Community Involvement.
A selection committee reviewed applying schools’ applications and verified supporting evidence to determine the award winners.
HCCS received an award, several books that support the WSCC initiative, and a check that will be used to further support practices in place in our schools.
