Lindsey Cook, Fourth Grade Teacher at Sonoma Elementary is one of ten Michigan educators selected as 2025 - 2026 Regional Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Cook is the Region 7 winner.
Regional winners were nominated for Michigan Teacher of the Year and chosen for their dedication to the teaching profession. The ten regional winners comprise the Michigan Teacher Leadership Advisory Council.
“The Regional Teachers of the Year are selected from among Michigan’s many outstanding educators who play such an important role in student learning,” said State Superintendent Dr. Michael F. Rice. “Regional Teachers of the Year also elevate the voices of teachers by sharing their experiences and valuable insight with our department and the State Board of Education.”
Mrs. Cook will be interviewed by a panel of statewide education stakeholders as part of the process of selecting the 2024-2026 Michigan Teacher of the Year. The Michigan Teacher of the Year will be a non-voting member of the State Board of Education and will be Michigan's candidate for National Teacher of the Year. Visit the Michigan Department of Education for more information on the process.
Congratulations to Mrs. Cook on this wonderful accomplishment! Your dedication and commitment to the students of Sonoma Elementary and Harper Creek Community Schools are truly appreciated.

Jim spent much of his childhood as a Harper Creek Beaver. After graduating from high school, he left Battle Creek for a few years. When he returned, he began a career in the trades but also devoted some of his time to the Harper Creek Community. He eventually joined Harper Creek as a full-time employee. He has a unique combination of skills that have allowed him to contribute his time and efforts to our school district in the last twenty-plus years.

As a child and a student, Becky was involved in many activities, making her a well-rounded child and helping her to hone many skills that would help her as an adult and a teacher for Harper Creek Schools. She seemed to thrive with this model. It has served her well with the variety of roles she has filled during her time at Harper Creek, starting in 2001.
