Dear Sonoma Elementary Community,

It is with great pride and profound gratitude that I introduce myself as the new principal of Sonoma Elementary. As an educator with 20 years of experience—and as someone who has spent the past seven years serving the students, staff, and families of Harper Creek—I am honored to lead a school community that means so much to me both personally and professionally.

Sonoma has been my home, my passion, and my purpose. For the past six years, I have taught fourth grade at Sonoma, building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Prior to that, I taught kindergarten at Wattles Park Elementary here in Harper Creek. I also had the opportunity to teach GSRP, first, and second grade in other school districts. These experiences have given me a well-rounded perspective on elementary education and a deep commitment to supporting learners at every stage of their journey.

This past year, I was deeply humbled to be named the 2025–2026 Michigan Regional Teacher of the Year for Region 7—an honor that reflects not just my own dedication, but the strength of our school community and the excellence we cultivate together.

My ties to Harper Creek run deep. My grandmother is a retired Sonoma teacher, my parents are proud Harper Creek graduates, and I am honored to serve in a district that has meant so much to my family for generations. Sonoma is more than where I work—it is part of who I am.

Throughout my time in Harper Creek, I have served in a variety of leadership roles, including as a member of the Sonoma Building Leadership Team, the District Curriculum Council, and as a FAME (Formative Assessment for Michigan Educators) coach. I have also worked as a trauma-certified practitioner and trainer. 

I hold a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a major in social studies and a minor in early childhood special education, and I earned my master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University. 

As I step into this new role, I remain grounded in the values that have guided me throughout my career: creating a school where every child feels safe, seen, and empowered to achieve—where every staff member feels supported and encouraged to grow, and where every community member feels welcomed and heard.

My commitment to Sonoma and Harper Creek Community Schools is rooted in honoring our rich traditions while continuously striving for improvement in all areas. Our students only get one chance at a high-quality elementary experience, and I do not take this responsibility lightly. My vision is to foster innovation and excellence, ensure transparency and care for all stakeholders, and align our daily work with our shared mission and goals of educating, empowering, and equipping students for life. 

Education is a lifelong journey, and we are most successful when we walk that journey together. Whether you are a caregiver, teacher, support staff member, or community partner—your voice matters, and your partnership is essential to our success.

Sonoma is a special place, and it is my deepest honor to serve this community as its principal. My husband Deven and I are proud Harper Creek parents—three of our six children are graduates, and three are currently enrolled in the district. I truly understand and value what it means to be both an educator and a parent in this community.

Together, we have an incredible opportunity to build on our strong foundation, elevate what works, and explore new paths toward excellence. I look forward to the journey ahead—and to serving, supporting, and celebrating all that makes Sonoma Elementary extraordinary.
